Ayurveda - Eastern Medicine
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is one of the world's oldest holistic healing systems, originating in India over 5,000 years ago. The word "Ayurveda" comes from the Sanskrit words ayur (life) and veda (knowledge) — meaning "the science of life."
The Three Doshas
At the heart of Ayurveda is the concept of three energies, or doshas, that govern our physical and mental characteristics:
- Vata (Air & Space) — governs movement, creativity, and flexibility.
- Pitta (Fire & Water) — governs digestion, metabolism, and transformation.
- Kapha (Earth & Water) — governs structure, stability, and nourishment.
Understanding your dominant dosha can help guide your lifestyle, diet, and wellness choices.
